Throughout anyone's life and maybe that of an author, there are so many things that can and do inspire you and I don't know if you're like me; when you're happy ideas and creativity just flow. Everyone comes across bumps in the road and challenges and when those happen they really do slow you down physically and mentally.
India is the inspiration for my second book; Vince Discovers the Golden Triangle. The most Incredible place, a melting pot of people, sights, sounds, smells, food, sport and experiences and memories that will last a lifetime.
Playing Elephant polo on the maharajas polo field at the palace in Jaipur has to be one of the highlights and special moments in my life. Such amazing creatures and such a wonderful and beautiful setting - you really feel what it's like to be royalty for a short while.
Someone said to me 'there are two people in this world'; those who have seen the Taj Mahal and those who haven't! One of the most awe inspiring places, tragic but beautiful stories surround the Taj Mahal. A white marble building that has touched so many people and that is an everlasting symbol of love a man had for his wife. Imagine a man today building something as beautiful and iconic to literally demonstrate how much she meant to him. It also caused a lot of pain to very many people when you read into the darker side of the actual construction of the building.
Myself and the team at Prayan Animation in India had so much fun in designing the beautiful illustrations for this book and their ability to create such detailed and true to life pictures was just amazing. Whenever I write a new book and then brief the illustration company, I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas; the anticipation of receiving the coloured illustrations back is almost unbearably exciting. One of my favourite illustrations has to be the inside of the Maharajas Express. The detailing within the train and on the wine goblets, the steam coming from the coffee cups to the reflection in the window. The beautiful golden birds sculpture. The illustrations throughout the book are really what sets this book apart from other children's books. Imagine the delight when I briefed the illustrators that they were going to be drawing images from their country.
Anyone who knows me will know that I am super detail oriented and nothing but the best quality will do. If you get the chance to visit India or indeed travel on the Maharajas Express it is so worth it. Seeing everything that this amazing country has to offer. One of my favourite places in the world to visit and I can't wait to go back and finally meet the amazing illustrators who work on my books.
There are so many other books that I have planned and I can't wait to start creating those too. If you would like to connect with me or chat about any of the books, please do drop me a note. Have a great day!
