Considering a holiday to Spain this year?

Heidi Bryant • Oct 05, 2022

Why not learn a little Spanish before you travel?

There's no doubting the fact that the world has changed during the first six months of 2020, and with it learning habits and ability to move around freely. If you are one of the brave, restless or defiant souls who is planning on taking a summer holiday you may be interested to know it's not as scary or difficult as you might be led to believe. Having recently returned from Spain, I can speak with some authority.

Now the flight will be considerably different, wearing face masks is obligatory (at the time of writing this article) which is something to get used to for a couple of hours while in the airport and on the plane. But, cleaning and sanitation routines both at the airport, checking temperatures and form filling are all in places to make you feel much more comfortable about the scrutiny that is now in place enabling travellers to visit their favourite destinations. Children may well become agitated and frustrated with not being able to move around the cabin freely. So why not spend some of the journey learning a new language and discovering a Spanish city and some of the cultural delights you can experience.

I studied languages relatively late in life when I started grammar school – but children, even when they are toddlers can easily pick up another language. In 2018, I decided to write my first book, which enables parents to help their children learn French. In 2019, I launched my third book - The Adventures of Vince the Cat - Vince Discovers the Wonder of Seville. So, here are a few tips to help your child learn Spanish in a fun way! And as a parent you can also learn Spanish too.

Many parents may consider hiring a Spanish tutor, but this may prove ineffective as learning another language would generally take more than one or two hours a week.

Children learn by repetition — constant repetition — and learning a language is no different

A great solution to help your children to learn Spanish would be to hire a Spanish nanny to speak with them all day, or move to Spain but maybe that wouldn’t be possible for everyone. Although,  I really believe that the best tutor to teach a child is someone who is close to them – like you – the parents for example! Now… Fear not! If you don’t speak Spanish yourself – I have just the solution...

How can my child learn Spanish if I don’t speak the language myself?

If you don't speak any Spanish , then you could start by taking a couple of hours of Spanish lessons and learn the basic every day words; numbers, colours, animals to start with. You could also start with this new resource designed for both parents and children - The Adventures of Vince the Cat – Vince Discovers the Wonder of Seville.

In this book – I have subtly included Spanish words and phrases into the story – so your child may not even realise that she/he is actually learning. You will both get to meet new characters, learn about the famous places in Seville and be able to familiarise yourself with the Spanish Language. Best of all, is you can learn Spanish easily by following the pronunciation tips at the back.

Inspire your child to learn Spanish today! If you'd like the book to be dedicated and signed by the author, please drop us a note with all the details via our contact us page after purchase.

If you can make children excited about a topic, then it doesn't feel like education. At least that's my philosophy. At Catnap Stories® we believe in making learning fun by creating some exciting adventures centred around our beloved feline friends and in particular, following the antics of Vince the Cat.

Why not start when they are toddlers? I studied languages relatively late in life when I started grammar school – but children, even when they are toddlers can easily pick up another language. One of my customers who owns the book The Adventures of Vince the Cat – Vince Goes to Paris has told me that he has read the book over 40 times to his daughter at her request. He then pleaded with me to write another book!!
